ATLANTA – Georgia Tech’s third-ranked women’s tennis team will be back in action this weekend when they host No. 42 NC State and No. 30 Wake Forest to open a six-match homestand to end the 2008 regular season.
The Yellow Jackets and Wolfpack will square off Saturday at 12 noon before Tech meets Wake at 12 noon Sunday to conclude the weekend.
Georgia Tech (11-5, 3-1 ACC) is currently tied for third in the ACC while NC State (10-5, 3-2) is tied for fifth at 3-2 in ACC play. Wake Forest (8-5, 4-0 ACC) remains the only undefeated team in the conference entering the weekend, and will play Clemson before traveling to Atlanta.
The Yellow Jackets suffered their only conference loss of the season last Saturday when they dropped a 4-3 match to No. 9 Duke in Durham. That loss followed a 5-2 win at No. 13 North Carolina on Friday.
Georgia Tech has fared well against the Wolfpack of late, entering the match on an 11-match winning streak against NC State. The Yellow Jackets will also welcome back a familiar face when the Wolfpack come to Atlanta, as former Georgia Tech standout Alison Silverio is in her first year as an assistant coach with the program.
Wake Forest has won 20 of 27 matches against Georgia Tech, but enters this weekend on a five-match losing streak to the Yellow Jackets, with their last win coming in 2002.
The Yellow Jackets boast seven ranked singles players and three doubles teams that appear in the top-50 in the nation while the team has maintained a top-five ranking the entire season.
