ATLANTA – The third-ranked Georgia Tech women’s tennis team will begin the conference portion of 2006 by hosting No. 22 Clemson Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Bill Moore Tennis Center. Admission for the match is free while livestats will be available at www.ramblinwreck.com.
The Yellow Jackets enter the contest with a 6-1 record on the season while the Tigers stand at 4-2. While Clemson holds the 21-4 series lead, the Jackets won the last meeting between the two schools, 4-3, in Clemson a year ago. In that match, Tech lost the doubles point but then responded with singles wins by Kacie Anson, Dasha Potapova, Alison Silverio and Lyndsay Shosho to earn its first victory in Clemson since 2001 and first win over the Tigers in three years.
Wednesday’s contest will be a matchup of the last two ACC Women’s Tennis Champions, as Clemson captured the regular-season and tournament championships in 2004 and the Yellow Jackets swept both titles in 2005.
Following Wednesday’s match, the Jackets will return to action Saturday at 12 noon when they host No. 9 Northwestern.
