No. 29 Georgia Tech Men's Tennis Fights Back to Defeat No. 35 Middle Tennessee State

George Gvelesiani won at No.5 singles and at No. 3 doubles to lead the No. 29 Georgia Tech men’s tennis team to a 4-3 win over No. 35 Middle Tennessee State. With the win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 2-0 on the season while the Blue Raiders fall to 3-2.

Georgia Tech trailed 3-2 in the match but received a 7-6 (1), 6-3 win set victories from Scott Blackmon at No. 6 singles to tie the score at 3-3 and soon after Gvelesiani clinched the match for the Yellow Jackets with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Rishan Kuruppu.

The Yellow Jackets captured the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Georgia Tech opened the match dropping No. 1 doubles as the 22nd ranked team of Marko Rajevac and David North fell to the third-ranked team of Marco Born and Andreas Siljestrom, 8-5. The Jackets then evened the score with a win at No. 3 doubles as Jordan Delass and George Gvelesiani won by an 8-6 decision over Rishan Kuruppu and Greg Pollack. Georgia Tech then claimed the doubles point when Scott Blackmon and Zachary Rath paired together to beat Brandon Allan and Kai Schledorn, 9-8 (5).

Middle Tennesse then got on the board with a straight set victory at No. 3 singles as Schledorn defeated North, 6-4, 6-3. The Jackets built a 2-1 lead as Rajevac upset No. 98 Born, 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (6), but soon after the Blue Raiders tied the score at 2-2 as No. 48 Siljestrom defeated Tech’s Rath at No. 2 singles, 7-6 (6), 7-5. Middle Tennessee State then held a 3-2 lead following a win at No. 4 singles as Allan defeated Delass, 6-4, 7-5.

The Yellow Jackets will return to action Wednesday when they take on Georgia State at 3 p.m. at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
