ATLANTA – The 25th-ranked Georgia Tech men’s tennis team will return to action after a lengthy layoff on Wednesday by hosting 70th-ranked and cross-town rival Georgia State at the Bill Moore Tennis Center. The match will get under way at 1:00 p.m., which is one hour earlier than the originally scheduled time.
The Yellow Jackets (4-1) have won four-straight matches since dropping their season-opening match to eighth-ranked Pepperdine. Tech won its last two matches quite handily over Charlotte and Mercer by scores of 5-2 and 7-0 respectively. The Jackets will be looking to extend their success against the Panthers (3-0) as Tech holds a 22-1 edge in the all-time series.
Tech has gotten solid play from a number of individuals this year, including juniors Roger Anderson and David Wright. Anderson is currently 32nd in the national singles rankings, while teaming with Wright to form the Jackets’ top doubles tandem and are ranked 21st in the nation. The Jackets also boast the 31st-ranked doubles team in sophomores West Nott and Scott Schnugg.
Wright has also been successful of late, winning his last three singles matches to pace Georgia Tech to its current win streak.
Wednesday’s match will be the last at home for the Jackets at home until March 8, as Tech will take to the road for four-straight dual matches in the next two weeks, including showdowns with Vanderbilt (Feb. 23) and Middle Tennessee State (Feb. 24) this weekend.
