TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Alex Montgomery registered her fourth double-double of the season but the No. 24/25 Georgia Tech women’s basketball team fell on the road to Florida State (16-4, 4-0 ACC), 59-49, Sunday night at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center.

“I thought this was a typical ACC Game,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “It was a battle from start to finish. We played well in spurts but you can’t take a play off because when you do, it seems like the other team goes on a 5-0 run.”

Montgomery finished with a team-high 14 points and grabbed a career-best 13 rebounds. Jacqua Williams added 12 points for the Yellow Jackets (13-4, 1-2) but was limited due to foul trouble.

“Jacqua is our head to our team’s body,” Joseph said. “With 10 freshmen and sophomores out there, she is our calming factor. All year long she has made the big shots for us but tonight she was limited.”

The Yellow Jackets were behind by as much as seven points with seven minutes remaining in the first half before coming back to tie the `Noles at 28 as the team’s entered the locker room.

Florida State jumped out to an eight-point lead over the first nine minutes of the second half before Tech came roaring back with 9-0 run to take a 46-45 lead with 5:13 remaining on the game clock. The Seminoles responded by closing out the game on a 14-3 run of their own for the win.

The Seminoles were led by Jacinta Monroe, who finished with 15 points, 10 rebounds and nine blocks. Mara Freshour added 13 points and eight rebounds.

Tech returns home next Thursday, Jan. 22 when it hosts No. 2 North Carolina. Tipoff at Alexander Memorial Coliseum is scheduled for 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to participate in Take A Kid to the Game day, where fans will be able to buy one ticket and get one free. There will also be a giveaway provided by the NCAA.
