ATLANTA – The 24th-ranked Georgia Tech softball team (36-13) will host Western Carolina (18-24) in a single game this Wednesday at Glenn Field. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. and can be followed via live stats on www.ramblinwreck.com.
With nine games remaining in the Atlantic Coast Conference schedule, the Yellow Jackets stand tied for fourth with Florida State at 6-6, four games behind North Carolina (10-2). Tech takes on Maryland this weekend (4-5), and face Boston College (2-7) and Virginia (1-11) to conclude league play.
The Jackets and WCU have never played with the Catamounts entering their second season of softball. Tech carries an .815 winning percentage (88-22) over the last five seasons at Glenn Field.
The Rambling Wreck continues to lead the nation with 60 home runs and leads the ACC in all offensive categories. The Jackets are hitting .321, scoring 6.57 runs per game and hold a team earned run average of 2.68.
WCU is batting .287 as a team and has 44 doubles and 26 home runs so far this season. They hold a 3.62 ERA and are scoring 4.60 runs per game.
Continuing to lead the ACC in batting is Caitlin Lever. Lever, a senior from Amherst, N.Y., is hitting .497, with 47 runs scored, 14 doubles, three triples, eight home runs and 49 runs batted in. She holds an ACC best .563 on base percentage and is second all-time in Tech history with a career batting average of .380.
In the circle, Whitney Humphreys picked up a pair of wins against FSU and leads the team with 16 wins this season, fourth in the ACC. She has a career-high 98 strikeouts and holds a 2.49 ERA.
Reigning ACC Player of the Week Savannah Brown is as hot as they come offensively. Brown finished last week with an impressive 1.333 slugging percentage, four home runs, nine runs batted in, a .533 batting average and had two walks. She is now fourth all-time in Tech history with 29 career home runs.
The Jackets will travel to College Park, Md., for a three-game ACC series with Maryland this weekend. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday (1 p.m.) and single game on Sunday (12 p.m.).
