No. 24 Jackets Host Florida State in ACC Softball Series

ATLANTA – The 24th-ranked Georgia Tech softball team (34-12, 4-5 ACC) will host Florida State (27-17, 5-4) in an Atlantic Coast Conference match-up this Saturday-Sunday, April 7-8. The Yellow Jackets and Seminoles will play a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Easter Sunday, both days starting at 1 p.m.

The games on Saturday will air on video on demand at www.ACCSelect.com. All three games can be followed via live stats on www.ramblinwreck.com.

The Yellow Jackets trail the Seminoles in the all-time series 11-39, but have won five of last nine games against FSU.

Senior Caitlin Lever leads the ACC in several categories and was named as a USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top 25 Finalist on Wednesday. She is hitting .496, with 13 doubles, three triples, eight home runs, 49 runs batted in and has an astounding .563 on base percentage. The Amherst, N.Y., native also has 14 stolen bases in 16 attempts.

In the circle, Tiffany Johnson and Whitney Humphreys each have 14 wins for the Yellow Jackets. Johnson leads the team in earned run average (2.18) and strikeouts (137), ranking in the top five in the ACC in both categories. Humphreys carries a 2.71 ERA and has fanned a career-high 91 batters.

For the Seminoles, preseason All-American Veronica Wootson poses a dangerous threat at the plate. Wootson is hitting .324, with nine doubles, six home runs and has driven in 22 runs for FSU. She also has 24 stolen bases for the `Noles.

Leading the way for FSU in the circle is Tiffany McDonald. She holds a 9-11 record, with a team-low 1.26 ERA and 158 strikeouts.
