Behind the hitting of Lauren Sauer, who recorded 17 kills on 18 attempts (.944 hitting percentage), the No. 23 Georgia Tech volleyball team defeated NC State, 30-19, 30-18, 30-18. With the win, the Yellow Jackets win their ninth consecutive match and improve to 17-2, 3-0 Atlantic Coast Conference while the Wolfpack falls to 2-17, 0-2 ACC.
Sauer’s percentage of .944 ranks second all-time on the NCAA’s single match hitting percentage, for players with 15 or more attempts.
The Yellow Jackets’ offense was strong, hitting .397 to the Wolfpack’s .120. Lynnette Moster had 15 kills in the match, while Alexandra Preiss recorded nine. Defensively, Tech outdug NC State 45 to 29, as Marisa Aston notched 11 digs, followed by Keight Vincent who had 10. Kele Eveland tallied 47 assists in the match.
NC State was led by Maya Mapp who had 10 kills and three block assists.
Georgia Tech will return to action Saturday hosting No. 11 North Carolina at 8 p.m. in O’Keefe Gym. Free t-shirts will be given out to the first 100 fans and any person attending the Wake Forest football game receive free admission with their ticket stub.
