ATLANTA – The 21st-ranked Georgia Tech women’s track and field team will be competing at the Tiger Track Classic this Saturday, April 7, on the Hutsell-Rosen track in Auburn, Ala.
Competition begins on Saturday with the long jump at 12 p.m., with running events scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. The last women’s event of the day is set for 6 p.m.
“The Auburn Track Classic will be an excellent meet for us,” said women’s head coach Alan Drosky. “Similar to our home meet last week, the field of teams is limited in number but outstanding in quality. It will make for an excellent meet at Auburn’s new facility that is an easy trip for our student-athletes.”
The women are led by senior Ashlee Kidd, who has already set NCAA Regional qualifying times in the 100-, 200-, and 400-meter dash this season. Her time of 11.58 in the 100m is a personal-record and the fourth-best time in school history. Kidd currently has the second-best time in the 400m in the nation.
Junior Shantia Moss and senior Fatmata Fofanah have each qualified for the NCAA Regional in the 100-meter hurdles. Moss has a season-best time of 13.22 in the race, while Fofanah ran it in 13.45. Moss is tied for fourth in the nation with her hurdles time.
Freshman Samantha Musil, competing in only her second collegiate meet, qualified for the NCAA Regional in both the shot put and discus at the Yellow Jacket Invitational. Musil finished the shot put with a mark of 47 feet, 8 ½ inches and threw the discus 158 feet, 1 inch last Saturday.
Sophomore Kimery Hern broke her own school-record in the hammer throw with an NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 189 feet at the Yellow Jacket Invitational.
Also qualifying last weekend was sophomore Mellany Stanislaus, who landed at 40 feet, 9 ½ inches in the triple jump.
“We’ve had two solid meets to open the outdoor season up and Auburn gives us another chance to improve performances before heading to the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships in two weeks,” added Drosky.
Results for the Tiger Track Classic will be posted at the end of the day on the official Georgia Tech website (www.ramblinwreck.com). Information and results will also be available by C.F.P.I. Timing.
