ATLANTA – The 20th ranked Yellow Jacket women’s tennis team (8-5, 1-1 ACC) will return to ACC play this weekend when it travels to North Carolina to face the #32 NC State Wolfpack (10-3, 1-2 ACC) in Raleigh on Saturday and the #48 Wake Forest Demon Deacons (6-7, 0-3 ACC) in Winston-Salem on Sunday.
Both matches will begin at noon on their respective days and live scoring will be available through RamblinWreck.com.
Both NC State and Wake Forest lost to No. 3 North Carolina in their last outings. The Wolfpack fell 5-2 to the Tar Heels March 23 in Raleigh and the Demon Deacons dropped a 5-2 decision March 20 in Winston-Salem.
The Yellow Jackets earned a pair of non-conference wins in their last two outings. Tech defeated No. 16 Vanderbilt 4-3 March 19 in Nashville and beat No. 19 Notre Dame 5-2 March 24 in Atlanta.
Junior Jillian O’Neill earned a decisive 6-0, 6-3 win over Notre Dame’s Kristy Frilling, who entered the match ranked No. 3 in the Campbell/ITA College Tennis Rankings.
Georgia Tech leads the all-time series with the Wolfpack 22-12 and has won 15 consecutive matches against NC State. Last season, the No. 13 Yellow Jackets defeated the 26th ranked Wolfpack, 4-3, in Atlanta. Viet Ha Ngo clinched the Jackets’ first ACC win of the 2010 campaign with a 6-4, 6-3 win over NCSU’s Daria Petrovic
Wake Forest leads the Yellow Jackets 21-9 in the all-time series and earned a 4-3 upset of 13th ranked Georgia Tech last year in Atlanta to snap a seven match GT win streak. Lynn Blau and Elizabeth Kilborn claimed singles wins last season against the Demon Deacons. Blau downed Emilee Malvehy, 6-4, 6-4 on court four, while Kilborn earned a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 win over Wake’s Ryann Cutillo in the fifth spot of the lineup.
