No. 20 Volleyball Sweeps Wake Forest in ACC Tournament

Lynnette Moster pounded out 18 kills and Alexandra Preiss added 14 as the second-seeded Georgia Tech volleyball team swept seventh seeded Wake Forest in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament. The Yellow Jackets improve to 29-5 on the season while Wake Forest falls to 13-18.

No. 20 Georgia Tech advances to tomorrow’s ACC Tournament semifinals at 4 p.m. against Duke.

“I thought the entire team played well today and worked through some of the jitters and nerves that we had in the first game,” said head coach Bond Shymansky. “We are so excited to play in front of our home crowd and I’m proud of the performance that we gave our fans tonight. I thought that Lynnette and Alexandra were both phenomenal in the match tonight and really gave us some important kills at key times during the match. We’re looking forward to tomorrow’s match against either Duke or Maryland.”

The Jackets used a potent offense to defeat the Demon Deacons, hitting .381 as a team while holding Wake Forest to a .184 hitting percentage.

Twentieth-ranked Georgia Tech defeated Wake Forest in game one, 30-27. First-team All-ACC performer Lynnette Moster turned in 11 kills and three digs for the Yellow Jackets.

With a strong offensive performance from its middles, Georgia Tech took game two 30-20. Jayme Gergen, Alexandra Preiss and Laura Kuhn combined for 13 of the Yellow Jackets’ 21 kills. Georgia Tech hit .400 as a team. ACC Rookie of the Year Christy Williams hit .444 with four kills for Wake Forest.

Georgia Tech swept Wake Forest with its 30-23 win in the third game of the match, hitting .436 in the game. Kuhn, Lauren Sauer and Preiss each had four kills in the game, while Marisa Aston turned in six digs and Jayme Gergen had three blocks.

Williams led the Deacons with 11 kills and a .231 hitting percentage, while Valerie Rydberg posted 11 kills and 13 digs.
