ATLANTA – Over a week after opening Atlantic Coast Conference play with a 6-1 win over No. 24 Clemson, the No. 2 Georgia Tech women’s tennis team returns to league play this weekend when it travels to Florida to take on No. 12 Florida State (10-1, 1-0 ACC) and No. 11 Miami (7-3, 0-1 ACC).
The Yellow Jackets and Seminoles will square off Friday at 3 p.m., and Tech will face Miami Sunday at 12 p.m. in Coral Gables. Live stats for Sunday’s match will be available at http://hurricanesports.cstv.com/livestats/w-tennis/xlive.htm.
Georgia Tech (9-3, 1-0 ACC) will begin the weekend in Tallahassee, where they face a tough Seminole team that upset Miami a week ago. The Yellow Jackets are 7-16 all-time against Florida State, but have won four-straight over the Seminoles since the 2004 season. The last match in Tallahassee resulted in a 5-2 win for the Yellow Jackets, while FSU’s last victory in the series came in Tallahassee in 2004.
The Yellow Jackets will then travel to Coral Gables, where they have posted a 2-1 record against the Hurricanes. Tech is 7-3 all-time against Miami and has won each of the last seven matches dating back to the 2001 season. Four of the last seven matches have been 4-3 decisions for the Yellow Jackets. The Yellow Jackets and Hurricanes have met in the finals of the ACC Championships in each of the last three seasons.
Tech is coming off a tough loss against No. 20 Vanderbilt on Wednesday. All three of the Yellow Jackets losses this season have come against teams ranked in the top-20 in the nation, while five of Tech’s nine wins have been against top-20 teams (three against teams ranked among the top six in the nation).
