THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis hosts No. 1 Wake Forest and Liberty on Sunday, March 26 at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex. The first match against the Demon Deacons is slated for 12 p.m. followed by a 5:30 p.m. match with the Flames.
Setting the Scene: The Yellow Jackets moved up one spot in the latest ITA rankings to No. 17. Coming off a bye weekend, Tech comes in with a 3-0 record in ACC play, topping Clemson, Florida State and Miami.
Wake Forest stands on top of the ITA rankings at No. 1 with two players ranking inside the top-10 nationally. With a 15-1 record, the Demon Deacon’s only loss came from then, No. 1 Ohio State. Wake Forest is 4-0 in ACC play with wins over North Carolina, Duke, Virginia Tech and Clemson. Liberty comes in with a 7-8 record with two wins in the Big South conference.
Parking for Sunday’s matches is available in the Family Housing lot, located on 10th street across from the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.
Singles Update: Junior Christopher Eubanks stayed in the top 10 of the rankings at No. 9. The Atlanta native battled back from a first set loss in his last outing at Miami to win in three. Senior Cole Fiegel’s record remains unblemished at 9-0 playing at the four, five and six spots.
Doubles Update: The Jackets did not play doubles in their last outing against Miami due to weather, instead playing only singles matches. Tech has won the doubles point in eight of its matches.
Head coach Kenny Thorne says: “We’re excited to get back to playing matches. We had last weekend off and now we go five weekends straight of ACC matches. Wake Forest is having a great year and we are looking forward to the challenge. We have been playing well too so it should be a great match. We would love to get as many Tech fans out as possible. If you haven’t had a chance to watch college tennis at the highest level, Sunday is your chance.”
