ATLANTA – The No. 15 Georgia Tech women’s tennis team will return to conference play this weekend, hosting No. 71 Virginia Tech Saturday at 11 a.m. and No. 64 Virginia Sunday at 11 a.m. Livestats for both matches will be available at www.ramblinwreck.com.
The Yellow Jackets enter the match with an 8-2 record on the season, including a 1-0 mark in ACC matches, while Virginia Tech is 10-3, 0-1 ACC and Virginia stands at 6-3 and 1-0 in the conference.
Tech holds a 3-2 lead in the series with the Hokies, having won each of the last three matches between the two teams. Virginia leads the series against the Yellow Jackets, 15-9, however Tech has been the winner in the last two matches, and six of the last seven against the Cavaliers. Last season, Tech downed Virginia Tech, 6-1 at the Bill Moore Tennis Center and recorded a 4-1 win in Charlottesville against the Cavaliers.
With a win over Clemson in the first conference match of the season, Tech is 10-1 in ACC regular-season matches over the last two years, and 13-1 against ACC opponents in that time frame. The Jackets are currently in a five-way tie for second place in the ACC standings this season, as Duke leads with a 2-0 mark in conference matches.
Following this weekend’s matches, the Jackets will hit the road for three-straight matches, beginning next Wednesday at Furman at 2:30 p.m.
