No. 15 Georgia Tech Women Traveling to Multiple Meets This Weekend

Feb. 7, 2007

ATLANTA – The 15th-ranked Georgia Tech women’s track and field team will split up to compete at the Tyson Invitational, held in Fayetteville, Ark., and the Tiger Invitational in Clemson, S.C., this Fri. and Sat., February 9-10.

“The women’s team will compete at two meets this weekend,” said women’s head coach Alan Drosky. “A smaller group will be at the Tyson Invitational with a larger group attending the Tiger Invitational at Clemson.”

The women’s team, ranked No. 15 by Trackwire and No. 20 by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), is led by Shantia Moss, a NCAA automatic qualifier in the 60-meter hurdles, and Ashlee Kidd, a NCAA provisional qualifier in both the 200- and 400-meter dash.

Moss, a junior from Tamarac, Fla., is currently ranked second in the country in the 60m hurdles. Kidd, a senior from St. Petersburg, Fla., is ranked sixth nationally in the 200 and fourth overall in the 400. The two will headline a group of nine athletes that will compete at the Randal Tyson Track Center, located on the University of Arkansas campus. The Tyson Center is set to host the 2007 NCAA Indoor Championships in March.

“We have an opportunity to compete on literally one of the fastest indoor tracks in the world against some of the best competition in the country at Arkansas,” said Drosky.

Senior Mary Chind and sophomore Alana Clooten will lead a group of women at Clemson. The Jackets are making their third trip up I-85 to perform at the site of the 2007 Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Championship. The meet is scheduled to begin with the women’s shot put at 5:00 p.m. on Fri., and end with the women’s 3,000-meter run at 4:15 p.m. on Sat.

“The Clemson meet will be a smaller meet where we will look to make continued improvements as we approach the conference championships in two weeks,” added Drosky.
