No. 14 Tech Tennis Drops No. 67 Florida State, 5-2

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Alison Silverio won at No. 3 doubles and then recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles to lead No. 14 Georgia Tech (16-3, 7-0 ACC) to a 5-2 victory over No. 67 Florida State (8-10, 1-7 ACC) Sunday afternoon at the Florida State Tennis Center in Tallahassee, Fla.

The junior teamed with Kacie Anson to defeat Tapiwa Marobela and Alina Mihailescu, 8-2, while 12th-ranked Kristi Miller and Lyndsay Shosho stopped Florida State’s Nicola Slater and Whitney Eber, 8-1, at the top doubles position to help Tech take a 1-0 lead into doubles play.

Silverio, ranked No. 61 in the nation in singles, then quickly dispatched Suzanna Mansour to give the Jackets a 2-0 edge before Tech’s top-ranked Miller downed Anna Rynarzewska, 6-1, 6-2, at the top singles slot, making the score 3-0 in Tech’s favor.

After the Seminoles pulled within one point on Marobela’s 6-3, 6-3 victory over No. 76 Kelly Anderson, rookie Christy Striplin earned the deciding point in the match with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Eber at the No. 6 singles slot.

Shosho, ranked 51st in the nation in singles, then concluded Tech’s scoring aith a 6-0, 4-6, 7-6 (5) victory over Nicola Slater at the No. 2 position.

The Jackets will return to action next weekend when they travel to North Carolina to take on the Duke Blue Devils and North Carolina Tar Heels.
