No. 14 Tech Opens Spring Slate at Michigan Invite

THE FLATS – No. 14 Georgia Tech women’s tennis returns to the courts for the first time this spring at the Michigan Invite. The three-day tournament, Jan. 19-21, will be held at the Varsity Tennis Center and will feature Tennessee, Ohio State and host No. 10 Michigan. There is not team scoring at the event.

The Jackets enter the tournament as the 14th-ranked team in the country in the first Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings released on Jan. 9. Individually, Tech’s Kenya Jones sits at No. 24 in the singles rankings, while the doubles tandem of Valeriya Deminova and Victoria Flores are ranked No. 39.

FORMAT OF PLAY
Each team will play three rounds of doubles and three rounds of singles with up to eight flights in singles and four flights in doubles per round. Each team will play one round of singles and one round of doubles per day. The third set will be played to completion in singles. Points will be allotted for each win based on the following decreasing point value to determine the champion (singles and doubles) at the end of the weekend:

Win at No. 1 position — 8 points
Win at No. 2 position — 7 points
Win at No. 3 position — 6 points
Win at No. 4 position — 5 points
Win at No. 5 position — 4 points
Win at No. 6 position — 3 points
Win at No. 7 position — 2 points
Win at No. 8 position — 1 point

10 a.m. Singles — Ohio State vs. Tennessee
1 p.m. Doubles — Michigan vs. Tennessee, Georgia Tech vs. Ohio State
Singles to Follow — Michigan vs. Georgia Tech

Monday, Jan. 21
9 a.m. Singles — Tennessee vs. Georgia Tech
12 p.m. Doubles — Michigan vs. Georgia Tech, Ohio State vs. Tennessee
Singles to Follow — Michigan vs. Ohio State
