No. 13 Tech Readies for No. 7 Pitt, Florida State Finale

THE FLATS – No. 13 Georgia Tech volleyball (19-6, 12-4 ACC) will conclude its 2022 regular season with a pair of rematches this weekend, seeking vengeance at No. 7 Pitt (25-3, 15-1 ACC) on Wednesday at 5 p.m. in Pittsburgh before the finale on The Flats against Florida State (18-9, 10-6 ACC) on Saturday at 1 p.m. in O’Keefe Gymnasium.

Parking

For the home finale against Florida State, free parking will be available in the East O’Keefe Gymnasium lot and the Family Housing lot. The McCamish Pavilion lot will be reserved due to men’s basketball’s contest against North Alabama at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Promotions

For Saturday’s finale, Georgia Tech winter gloves will be handed out before the match while supplies last.

Tickets

Although general admission tickets have been sold out for Saturday’s regular season finale, 200 tickets remain available for Georgia Tech students with free admission at the door on a first-come, first-served basis. A valid BuzzCard must be displayed in order for students to receive a ticket to the match.

  • The Yellow Jackets have 12 wins in ACC play on the season, now owning double-digit conference triumphs for four consecutive years.
  • Tech has picked up 13 sweeps on the year, including eight in the ACC.
  • The Jackets were ranked No. 13 in this week’s AVCA DI Coaches Poll.
  • The 13 spot ties the 10th-highest ranking received by the White and Gold in program history, joining the 2003 squad.
  • The Yellow Jackets have been listed in 52 straight top 25 polls to date.
  • Georgia Tech is one of three ACC teams inside the top 15 (No. 4 Louisville, No. 7 Pitt).
  • As a unit, Georgia Tech is currently second in the ACC in both kills per set (13.69) and assists per set (12.74). The Yellow Jackets are also sitting third in the league in opponent hitting percentage (.173).
  • Senior outside hitter Julia Bergmann owns four ACC Player of the Week recognitions with back-to-back honors on two separate occasions this season, tying her career best and leading the league. Prior to Bergmann a season ago, no one in the ACC had matched the tally since 2015.
  • Bergmann also added her second career GameChanger Division I National Player of the Week selection from the AVCA this season, which made her the first Yellow Jacket in program history to garner two career recognitions.
  • Bergmann made waves in Tech’s comeback over Florida State specifically, unleashing a career best and program-record tying 38 kills in the match to become the first Yellow Jacket ever with four individual matches of 30 or more kills.
  • The explosive attacker is currently seventh in Tech history in career kills with 1,668 to date.
  • Bergmann continues to lead the ACC by a wide margin on the attack, ranking 17th in the NCAA in kills (475) and 14th in points (533.5) while placing third in the nation in both kills per set (5.34) and points per set (5.99).
  • In the conference alone, she holds advantages atop the league over the second-place marks by 37 kills, 1 kill per set, 21 points and 0.92 points per set.
  • In individual matches, the lauded outside hitter now owns the top two marks in kills in a match across the ACC and five of the top eight, highlighted by her 38 kills against Florida State leading the way. Bergmann is the only player in the ACC with more than 30 kills in a match this season, having done so twice.
  • Mirroring her advantages in kills, Bergmann also owns the top two totals in points, highlighted by 42.5 against Florida State as the closest of any other ACC player to date is 31.
  • The decorated attacker continues to climb deeper into the Tech record books as she’s become the fifth Yellow Jacket in program history to join the 1,500 kill/1,000 dig club. Having already surpassed 1,500 kills against Boston College, Bergmann eclipsed 1,000 career digs against North Carolina.
  • The vaunted Yellow Jacket is also fifth all time in career aces, owning 160 to date.
  • Bergmann is up to 11 outings of 20+ kill this season, earning five against ranked opponents, and 10 double doubles.
  • Graduate middle blocker Breland Morrissette joins Bergmann with one of the top marks in the country, currently ranking second in the ACC in hitting percentage (.414).
  • Junior setter Bella D’Amico has run Tech’s formidable attack this season as one of the best setters in the league, sitting in fourth in the conference in assists per set (10.01) and fifth in total assists (891).
  • Going beyond 2019’s NIVC title, Tech has won 77 of its last 95 matches.
  • Over the course of the past four seasons, Georgia Tech is 45-7 at home in O’Keefe Gymnasium. Tech is 304-104 (.745) all time in O’Keefe Gymnasium’s 28-year history.

Series History

  • Tech currently trails Pitt 12-2 in the all-time series.
  • A season ago, the Jackets topped the Panthers on the road for their highest ranked win in program history as Pitt was No. 2 at the time.
  • Tech also claimed the first meeting of the two sides at a neutral site in 2007.
  • The Panthers took this season’s previous meeting on The Flats, 3-1.
  • Georgia Tech leads Florida State 36-22 in the all-time series.
  • Following a reverse sweep earlier this season, the Jackets have won the last six matches dating back to 2019, the first four of which were played in O’Keefe.
  • The longest streaks for the White and Gold came from 1993-96 and 2002-05 when Tech took eight straight matches.
  • Tech currently leads the series 21-10 at home, 13-12 on the road and 2-0 in neutral matches.

Competitive Drive Initiative

In a unified endeavor, Georgia Tech, the Georgia Tech Foundation, Georgia Tech athletics and the Alexander-Tharpe Fund have come together to accelerate funding for student-athlete scholarships with the launch of the Competitive Drive Initiative. The initiative kicks off with the Accelerate GT Match Program, where any new gift to the A-T Fund’s Athletic Scholarship Fund made through Dec. 31 will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Georgia Tech Foundation, up to $2.5 million. Should Accelerate GT reach its $2.5 million fundraising goal, the matching gift would result in a $5 million impact for Georgia Tech athletics.
