No. 13 Jackets Sweep Chattanooga and Georgia Southern

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s tennis swept Chattanooga and Georgia Southern in a pair of matches Saturday at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex. With the wins, Tech improves to 8-2 on the season.

We’ve been working on a number of things in practice this past week and today we were able to go out and execute some of those things in preparation for a number of tough matches next weekend and the beginning of our ACC season. MATCH TWO VS. GEORGIA SOUTHERN
DOUBLES ACTION:
Tech swept the doubles matches for the second time on the day to lead the match 1-0. Wrapping up first, Paige Hourigan/Kenya Jones defeated Georgia Southern’s Emilia Bujan/Ella Monsey 6-0 from No. 2 before the No. 11 duo of Rasheeda McAdoo/Johnnise Renaud clinched the point with a 6-2 decision over Mariana Ranzahuer/Lindsay Truscott on court one. Luca Fabian/Nami Otuska completed the sweep with a 6-2 victory over Arianna de Winter/Paige Christian, 6-2.

SINGLES ACTION: Georgia Tech swept the singles matches once again against Georgia Southern. Renaud put Tech up 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 victory on court one over Truscott, while Hourigan topped Winter on court two, 6-1, 6-3. Fabian clinched the match for Tech on court six, defeating Christian, 6-1, 6-1 and Jones put the Jackets ahead 5-0 downing Ranzahuer on court three, 6-1, 6-1. Otsuka and Gizdova wrapped up the sweep from courts four and five, both taking their matches in straight sets.

MATCH ONE VS. CHATTANOOGA
DOUBLES ACTION:
Tech wasted no time sweeping doubles in 35 minutes from first serve. The pair of Hourigan/ Jones concluded first, sweeping Mckenzie Braco/Delaney Edwards, 6-0, on court two. The point was clinched at the top spot as the pair of McAdoo and Renaud took a 6-2 decision over Samantha Caswell/Rachele Gazzola. Fabian and Otsuka completed the sweep of doubles from court three, winning 6-3 over UTC’s Carolina Hall/Sydney Patton.

SINGLES PLAY: Tech swept all singles matches to claim the match 7-0. Jones finished first, cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Hall on court four before Fabian grabbed a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Barco on court six for a 3-0 match lead. McAdoo clinched the match on court three, defeating Patton, 6-0, 6-3. Playing at the No. 1 singles spot, Renaud pushed the Jackets ahead 5-0 with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Caswell before Hourigan won in a tiebreak on court two, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5). Nadia Gizdova completed the sweep on court five, taking a straight set victory, 6-4, 7-5, after battling back from a 5-3 deficit in the second set.

UP NEXT: Tech is back in action traveling to Georgia for a 3 p.m. matchup in Athens on Friday, Feb. 24.
