No. 12 Jackets Roll Past Duke, 59-46

DURHAM, N.C. – Four Yellow Jackets finished in double-figures as No. 12/17 Georgia Tech handled Duke on the road in a 59-46 victory Tuesday evening in Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Tech (18-4, 9-2 ACC) opened an 18-point lead in the first half, holding the Blue Devils to a 33.3 percent shooting efficiency in the first two frames. Eylia Love led all scorers with 12 points in the first half as Tech came racing out, grabbing a 13-2 lead by the 2:20 mark in the first quarter. Tech opened its largest lead following a Love bucket in the second quarter before Duke put together a quick 6-0 spurt to come within 12 points. But it would be the closest the Blue Devils would come in the first half as the Jackets led 34-19 at intermission.

The Yellow Jackets held steady in the third quarter, but the Blue Devils slowly began to chip away at their deficit and used a late 11-2 run spanning the quarters to come within single digits, 45-37, with 7:02 to play. Lorela Cubaj answered with a pair of buckets and Sarah Bates dropped a three-pointer to push Tech back out with a 55-39 edge. Nerea Hermosa finished with two layups with under a minute to play to seal the victory for the Jackets.

Cubaj led Georgia Tech with 15 points on the night, followed by 14 points from Love, 12 from Hermosa and 10 from Lotta-Maj Lahtinen. The Jackets won the rebounding battle for the 17th time this season, narrowly outrebounding the Blue Devils, 37-35, led by eight from Love. The Jackets shot 37.9 percent (25-66) from the field and committed a program-low four turnovers in the game.

Shayeann Day-Wilson led all scorers with 17 points. Lexi Gordon also contributed 11 points for Duke.

The win marked the fourth in program history, and first since 2016, for Georgia Tech inside Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Yellow Jackets have now taken four of the past seven meetings against the Blue Devils.

Georgia Tech returns to the hardwood on Monday, Feb. 7 at NC State. Tip inside Reynolds Coliseum is slated for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN2.
