No. 11 Jackets Travel to Boston College, Syracuse

THE FLATS – No. 11 Georgia Tech volleyball (17-3, 8-2 ACC), coming off its best 20-match start in the Michelle Collier era, will travel north for a pair of ACC road matches against Boston College (14-10, 3-7 ACC) and Syracuse (2-18, 0-10 ACC). The Jackets are two road wins away from their 10th of the season, a feat achieved in just six previous seasons, most recently in 2021.

Storylines

  • The Jackets are ranked No. 11 in the latest AVCA DI Coaches’ Poll. That’s now 64 straight in the AVCA’s top 25.
  • Tech is currently No. 12 in the NCAA RPI.
  • Coach Michelle Collier is the 2nd winningest coach in program history with 190 victories.
  • Tech leads the ACC with five different players recognized in the weekly awards: Bianca Bertolino (Offensive Player of the Week-10/23), Paola Pimentel (Defensive Player of the Week-10/23 and 9/4), Larissa Mendes (Freshman of the Week-9/4 and 9/11), Tamara Otene (Offensive Player of the Week-9/25) and Heloise Soares (Freshman of the Week-10/2).
  • The Jackets have tied their best 20-match start (17-3) in the Michelle Collier era – also 2021. It is tied for the third-best record through 20 matches in program history (20-0 in 2003 and 18-2 in 1996).
  • The Yellow Jackets boast one of the top defenses in the nation, leading the ACC with 15.62 digs/set, more than a full dig over 2nd place (BC – 14.42).
  • Tech’s 15.62 digs/set is the second highest among Power 5 defenses, behind only Kansas (16.00).
  • Otene leads all Power 5 hitters with 247 digs this season.
  • Bertolino has been a weapon from the service line with 48 aces to top the ACC and land 3rd in the NCAA. The Argentinian leads the league and is 2nd in the nation in aces per set (0.63).
  • Bertolino is two aces away from becoming just the 5th Jacket this century to reach 50 aces in a season.
  • Pimentel has been leading the Tech back row with 4.47 digs/set this year, the most in the ACC and the fifth most among Power 5 liberos. Last weekend brought her over the 300-dig mark for the season. The Rio de Janeiro native becomes the first Tech player with three straight 300 dig seasons since the program’s all-time digs leader, London Ackermann (2013-16).
  • Six Jackets come from outside the United States with International players accounting for 81.2% of the teams digs (964), 75.8% of the aces (100), 71% of the kills (740), 44.3% of the assists (420) and 44.1% of the blocks (65.5) up to this point in the season.
  • The White and Gold have an opportunity to achieve a 10th road win with a 2-0 weekend. That would result in just the 7th double-digit road win season in program history and the second of the Collier era (also 2021).
  • This year’s team holds an .889 winning percentage on the road this season (8-1). The program record for road winning percentage was set in 2021, when the team went 10-2 (.800), making the Elite 8 in the process.

Series Notes: vs. Boston College

  • This will be the 31st all-time meeting between Georgia Tech and Boston College.
  • Georgia Tech leads the all-time series, 25-5, winning 81 out of the 108 sets played (75%).
  • The Eagles haven’t taken a set against the Yellow Jackets since 2019, when they last won (3-2 at O’Keefe – 9/29/19).
  • Tech has won the last nine sets in the series by an average score of 25.1 to 16.4

Series Notes: vs. Syracuse

  • Sunday will be the 15th all-time meeting between Georgia Tech and Syracuse.
  • The Jackets lead the series, 8-6, and have won the past four matches dating back to 2018.
  • The last meeting in Syracuse was back in 2021, when Tech secured their first road win in the series, 3-1.
