ATLANTA – The 10th-ranked Georgia Tech Women’s Tennis team (1-0) will take its first road trip of the season Sunday when it travels to No. 35 Auburn. The match at the Yarborough Tennis Center is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
“We have had a great relationship with Auburn over the years and have had some great matches with them,” head coach Bryan Shelton said. “I expect this weekend to be no different. Auburn head coach Tim Gray does a phenomenal job at getting his team ready to play. Our goal is to continue to get better. We are looking forward to this weekend.”
The Yellow Jackets have won nine straight matches in the series with Auburn but only lead the all-time series 11-9. Last season, the Jackets defeated then 27th-ranked Auburn, 5-2 in Atlanta.
Tech is coming off a dominating 7-0 victory over Chattanooga last Monday. Sophomore Irina Falconi, the nation’s No. 1 singles player, won her match in straight sets. Senior Amanda McDowell earned her 111th career singles victory.
The Jackets will return home next Saturday, Jan. 30 when they host Arizona State in the first round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. The match with the 30th-ranked Sun Devils is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. Alabama and Kentucky will meet at 9 p.m. in the other first round match at the Bill Moore Tennis Center. The winners will play on Sunday at 2:30 p.m., to earn a spot in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships field.
