Njoku Wins 400 Hurdles On Day One At Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA – On day one of the World Famous Penn Relays held at Franklin Field, Leslie Njoku started things off with a bang taking home the victory in the 400 meter hurdles in the first event of the day for the Yellow Jackets.

Njoku recorded not only a season best, but a career best mark of 58.11 seconds which not only moved her up in the national rankings, but awarded the senior her first victory watch in eight years of competing at the Penn Relays.

Also competing in the hurdles for the Jackets was Jasmine Isley who crossed the line 17th in 1:00.50.

The duo of Julienne McKee and Jasmine Kent notched some top-10 finishes in the long jump as the freshman McKee made the podium with a third place leap of 6.01 meters while Kent took sixth launching herself 5.92 meters.

Mary Kate DuBard improved drastically in the 10,000 meter run knocking 21 seconds off of her season best time recorded at the ACC Championships to finish 13th in a field of 33 runners.

The Lady Jackets took part in three relays on the day beginning with a 43rd place finish in the 4×100 meter relay crossing with a time of 48.08. Tech improved to 13th place in the distance medley relay, finishing in 12:22.78 and then rounded out the day with the 4×400 meter prelims where they took 30th place finishing in 3:48.83.

The Jackets will be back in action on Friday, April 29 when they continue competition at the Penn Relays.
