Nine Georgia Tech student-athletes have been named to the 2009 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Academic Track & Field Teams, as announced by Commissioner John D. Swofford Wednesday.
Five men – Hunter Clasen, E.C. Gibbs, Casey Gramling, Tim Guglielmo and Billy Mateker – and four women – Alana Clooten, Tiffany Grant, Erica Penk and Joanna Wright – were recognized for their impressive seasons in and out of the classroom.
Gibbs and Mateker each earned an Academic All-ACC honor for the third time in their careers, while Clooten earns an honor for the second-straight year. This marks the first time the conference has differentiated teams between the indoor and outdoor seasons. The outdoor All-Academic Teams will be announced at a later date.
Duke and Florida State led the men’s squad with seven selections each, followed by the Yellow Jackets with five and Maryland with four honorees. North Carolina, NC State, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest had three selections followed by Boston College and Clemson with two. Miami and Virginia rounded out the team with one honoree each.

To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, student-athletes must be in at least their second year of competition and have a 3.00 grade point average over their career and over the last two semesters. Nominees are then judged by a committee looking 60% at academic performance and 40% at athletic achievement.
