THE FLATS – Georgia Tech track & field began this weekend’s meets in Nashville and Clemson with strong finishes coming from the mile runners for Tech.
In Nashville, Nicole Fegans improved her mile record by 1.33 seconds when she finished third at the meet. Fegans ran towards the back of the lead back for the three quarters of the race before pulling away in a top three group before crossing the line at 4:36.55. She previously set a new mark in this record at the Bob Pollock Invitational.
The rest of her teammates competing in Clemson also had impressive performances in the mile. Henrik Anderson led the pack in the men’s mile, finishing third (4:09.16), followed by Chris Cherono in sixth (4:11.36) and Nick Nyman in 10th (4:14.80). The women’s mile saw three top-seven finishes from Yellow Jackets in Riley Perlakowski (fourth, 4:55.33), Kayla Rose (fifth, 4:55.36) and Sarah Copeland (seventh, 4:58.63).
Olivia Moore, also competing in Clemson, finished sixth in the women’s pole vault with a season best mark of 4.19m (13’9”).
The White and Gold continue their split action in Nashville and Clemson. Action in Nashville starts at 9:30 a.m. and action in Clemson starts at 11 a.m.
