THE FLATS – Georgia Tech junior Quayshawn Nealy has been honored by the Atlantic Coast Conference as the Linebacker of the Week following his performance in Saturday’s 56-0 win over Syracuse at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
Nealy had an interception, a fumble recovery and a pass break-up as the Tech defense pitched its second shutout this season and yielded just 208 total yards to the Orange, which came in averaging 421.1. Nealy also registered pair of tackles.
The interception was the second this season and the sixth of the career for the Lakeland, Fla., native. Nealy is one shy of senior DB Jemea Thomas (seven) for the team’s active career lead in interceptions.
Nealy, who shared ACC Lineacker of the Week honors this week with Florida State’s Telvin Smith, garnered an ACC weekly honor last season following the North Carolina win.
Tech has earned four ACC weekly honors this season with Vad Lee winning Offensive Back accolades on Sept. 16, Shaquille Mason twice being named Offensive Lineman of the week (Sept. 16 and 23) and Nealy this week.
The Yellow Jackets (4-3, 3-2) return to action Saturday at Virginia at 12:30 p.m. on the ACC Network.
