Tennis Recruiting Network resume
ATLANTA – Nathan Rakitt of Marietta, Ga., ranked No. 4 among 2012 seniors in the state of Georgia and 81st nationally, has signed a letter-of-intent to play tennis at Georgia Tech, head coach Kenny Thorne announced Thursday.
A graduate of the Laurel Springs School, Rakitt has been ranked as high at 58th in the nation this year, and 46th in 2010. He is rated a 5-star recruit by the Tennis Recruiting Network and currently stands No. 22 in the Southeast. He has an 11-8 record in 2012, including a 4-3 mark against 5-star players and 4-2 against 4-star players.
“Nathan is a great fit for our program. He has excelled on court and in class,” said head coach Kenny Thorne. “He understands the high expectation level of our program and is excited about the challenge. He spent almost his whole junior career in Georgia where he has been one of the best players in the state. We are always excited about having another top Georgia player come play for us.”
Among his accomplishments were winning the Winter Southern Closes Championships in December of 2011 in Knoxville, Tenn., which included a semifinal win over the nation’s No. 18 player, and he reached the quarterfinals of the 2011 Southern BG18 Closed Tournament in Mobile, Ala.
Rakitt joins Garrett Gordon, another Marietta native who signed with the Yellow Jackets in the fall, in Tech’s 2012 freshman class, which has been ranked No. 20 in the nation by the Tennis Recruiting Network.
