Nate Hicks Signs Basketball Aid Agreement with Georgia Tech

July 13, 2010

ATLANTA – Nate Hicks, a 6-10 center from Panama City Beach, Fla., has signed a financial aid agreement with Georgia Tech and will join the Yellow Jackets’ basketball team this fall, head coach Paul Hewitt announced Tuesday.

Hicks, who originally signed a letter-of-intent last fall to attend Tulane, was granted a release from his letter-of-intent following a head coaching change and will enroll at Tech when the fall semester begins in August. He is eligible to play in the 2010-11 season.

“We’re fortunate to find a quality student-athlete like Nate at this late stage,” said Hewitt. “He had a tremendous senior year and was clearly one of the most improved players in the state of Florida. We look forward to working with him.”

A three-star prospect by Scout.com, Hicks was a third-team all-state choice in Florida who averaged 21.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 5.5 blocked shots as a senior for coach James Baxley at J.R. Arnold High School. As a junior, Hicks averaged 16.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and 5.0 blocked shots a game.

Hicks joins 6-5 wing player Jason Morris of Hephzibah, Ga., who attended The Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Conn., in the Yellow Jackets’ freshman class.
