Musil Earns Trip To Pan American Junior Athletics Championships

ATLANTA – Samantha Musil placed second in the junior women’s discus with a mark of 162 feet at the Finish Line USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships this past weekend at the IU Michael A. Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.

Musil, a freshman from DuBois, Neb., earned a spot on Team USA and a trip to the 2007 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships. The Pan-Am meet, which will be held in Sao Paulo, Brazil from July 6-8, plays host to some of the best athletes in the Americas. Musil is coming off a terrific first season on the flats, qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships where she placed 12th in the Discus.

The Jackets also had good showings over the weekend at the AT&T USA Track & Field Championships, held at the same site as the junior event. Senior Ashlee Kidd reached the semifinals of both the 200- and 400-meter dash. She placed 14th in the 200m with a time of 23.65 and then crossed the line 11th in the 400m with a time of 52.09.

Sophomore Jacqua Williams ran a time of 24.36 in the 200m for a 23rd-place finish at her first USA National Championship meet. Junior Elena Linn placed 26th in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of11:00.78 but did not qualify for the semifinal.

On the men’s side, freshman Billy Mateker finished 18th in the junior men’s 1500-meter run with a time of 4:01.94.
