Moss Paces Tech on Day One of Clemson Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. – Shantia Moss ran an NCAA Championship qualifying time in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles to lead the Georgia Tech track and field teams on the first day of the Clemson Invitational at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex.

Moss, the reigning NCAA Champion in the 60-meter hurdles, finished the 60m hurdle race in a time of 8.11 to qualify for this 2008 championship meet in her first competition of the season. Fatmata Fofanah placed second in the prelims of the hurdle event with a time of 8.44. Fofanah has also automatically qualified for this season’s NCAA Championships.

Alana Clooten and Kimery Hern placed first and second, respectively, in the women’s weight throw. Clooten finished the event with a mark of 18.42 meters. Hern had a best throw of 16.94 meters on the day.

Freshman Jenae Anderson placed sixth in the prelims of the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.58 to qualify for Saturday’s finals. Moss will also run the event on Saturday after placing 13th with a time of 7.72.

The men’s squad was led by Alphonso Jordan, who placed fourth in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles. He finished with a time of 8.18 to qualify for a spot in the finals. Dave Ford placed fifth in the prelims with a time of 8.24 and will also compete in the finals.
