Moss, Kidd and Miller Lead Jackets at Clemson Opener

Clemson, S.C. – Junior Shantia Moss began her indoor season by winning the 60-meter hurdles with a NCAA provisional time of 8.29 to lead the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams at the Clemson Opener on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Ashlee Kidd finished first in the women’s 200-meter dash with a time of 24.24. She also placed second in the 60-meter dash and was the first collegiate athlete to cross with a time of 7.51.

Junior Jerome Miller set a personal- and school-record to win the men’s high jump, reaching a NCAA provisional height of 7 feet 2 ½ inches. Miller also finished fourth in the men’s triple jump with a distance of 49 feet, 4 ¼ inches. Freshman Alphonso Jordan placed second in the triple jump landing at 49 feet, 9 ¾ inches.

Freshman Tiffany Grant made an instant impression with a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash, crossing the line in 56.31. Another freshman, Tiffany Chavis, placed sixth in the women’s high jump with a height of 5 feet, 5 inches.

Junior Derek Hoye finished the men’s 800-meter run in eighth place in a time of 1:59.79. In the men’s 3000-meter run, senior Cristan Duvall placed ninth (9:09.95).

Two sophomores had top-five finished in the women’s mile. Ashley Keck and Emily Yandle came in third and fifth respectively, in the women’s mile with a time of 5:25.66 and 5:32.47.

Sophomore Mellany Stanislaus landed in fifth place in the women’s triple jump with a length of 39 feet, six inches.

The Yellow Jackets will be off until after the New Year as Tech will travel to Lexington, Ky., for the Kentucky Invitational on Jan. 12-13.
