Moss and Kidd Lead Jackets on Day Two of Kentucky Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Junior Shantia Moss set a new personal-best time to win the women’s 60-meter hurdles with an NCAA provisional time of 8.17 to the lead Georgia Tech at the Kentucky Invitational on Saturday afternoon in the Nutter Field House.

Senior Ashlee Kidd finished first in the women’s 400-meter dash with a season-best and NCAA provisional time of 53.47. Kidd also placed third in the women’s 200-meter dash with another season-best and NCAA provisional time of 23.85. She also crossed the line fifth in the 60-meter dash preliminary round in 7.55 seconds but did not participate in the finals.

The Tech women’s 4×400-meter relay team crossed the line first with a time of 3:43.88.

On the men’s side, redshirt-freshman Steve Marcelle finished third in the men’s shot put with a throw of 56 feet, ½ inch. Sophomore teammate Andrew Powlen placed fourth with a toss of 56 feet in the shot put.

Senior David Herren crossed the line fourth in men’s mile with a time of 4:16.54. Junior Derek Hoye, placed second in the men’s 800-meter run in a time of 1:52.47. Sophomore E.C. Gibbs set a personal-best time in the 800 with a time of 1:52.67 for a third-place finish.

Next up for the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams is the Clemson Classic in Clemson, S.C. The teams will get a chance to compete against five Atlantic Coast Conference foes next Friday and Saturday, Jan. 19 and 20.
