THE FLATS – Senior right side hitter Monique Mead was named Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
The Newnan, Ga. native helped Georgia Tech (18-10, 9-8 ACC) to a 2-0 record this past weekend with wins against No. 22 North Carolina, 3-2, and NC State, 3-1. She recorded double-doubles and led all players with 17 and 20 kills in both matches, respectively.
Mead became the all-time leader in career kills at Georgia Tech on Saturday night against NC State. She needed four kills heading into the match to tie the record and tallied five in the first game to become the new leader in Georgia Tech lore, topping Lynnette Moster’s 1,859 (2001-04). She now has 1,872 kills in her career and counting with three regular season matches left on the schedule.
Mead leads the team with 413 kills this season for a 3.90 per game average and has a team-high 53 service aces, averaging 0.50 a set. In addition, she needs just three more digs to eclipse 1,000 in her career.
Mead and the Yellow Jackets play their final two home matches of the season this week with contests on Thursday against Duke and Friday vs. Wake Forest. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
