BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore All-American Chaunte Howard tallied a fourth-place finish in the women’s high jump with a clear of 6’01.50″ at the 2004 Indoor U.S.A Track and Field Championships this past weekend in the Reggie Lewis Track & Field Center. The top two qualifiers in each event advanced to compete for Team US.A at the 2004 IAAF World Championships on March 5-7, in Budapest, Hungary.
Senior Michael Massey tallied an eighth-place finish in the high jump for the Jackets with a clear of 7’00.50″.
Senior sprinter Amandi Rhett qualified for the finals of the 200 meters with a personal-record time of 23.93 in the preliminaries earlier today. Rhett finished sixth in the finals of the 200 with a time of 24.04. The Willingboro, N.J., native finished 12th in the prelims of the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.45.
Freshman Ashlee Kidd qualified for the finals of the 400 meters with a time of 54.51 on Saturday. The 2004 Indoor Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year tallied a time of 54.11 in the finals of the 400 to finish eighth.
Competing in the 60-meter hurdles for the Yellow Jackets were juniors Montrell Person and Dana Rogers. Person finished 19th in the 60mH with a time of 7.89, while Rogers finished 11th with a time of 8.38.
Junior transfer Holt McPherson was the final Tech competitor in the championship meet. McPherson posted a mark of 22’05.25″ in the long jump to finish ninth.
The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams will travel to South Bend, Ind., for the Alex Wilson Invitational on March 5-6.
