Men's Track & Field Travels to Last Chance Meets

March 6, 2008

ATLANTA – Fresh off a second-place finish at the Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, the Georgia Tech men’s track & field team will send athletes to both the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Ind. and the Virginia Tech Last Chance meet in Blacksburg, Va. Friday-Saturday.

“This is a big weekend for a handful of our team members,” head coach Grover Hinsdale said. “This is the last weekend of the regular indoor season so we are sending a small number out to two different meets with the intention of qualifying for the NCAA’s, or, to solidify their position in the national rankings. All of these young men have an excellent opportunity to punch their ticket for Fayetteville, Ark.”

Senior James Lemons II, who currently ranks sixth in the nation in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 52 feet, 8 ¼ inches, leads six Jackets who have already provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships.

Steve Marcelle and Andy Powlen, who have each provisionally qualified in the shot put, will be the only Jackets to compete at the Virginia Tech Last Chance meet.

The men will next compete at the NCAA Championships on Fri.-Sat., March 13-14 at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
