The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team begins competition in the Southern Intercollegiate being held at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga. The Yellow Jackets will join 25 other teams in the event, including eight from the SEC. Play will begin on Friday with two rounds of singles play and doubles action and continue on through Sunday.
The tournament will be comprised of three singles divisions and two doubles divisions. Div. I and II singles will feature 51 and 58-man draws, respectively, while Div. III will be a 28-man bracket. There will also be two doubles divisions, with 32 teams each. Play begins on Friday at 8:00 a.m. with the Div. II and Div. III singles.
“This is always a strong tournament and attracts a number of top players from the South,” said head coach Kenny Thorne. “I thought our guys played well last weekend and this is another chance for them to make improvements. Facing good competition is the best way for our team to make those improvements in preparation for our spring season and hopefully we will accomplish some of that this weekend.”
The entire Yellow Jacket squad will be competing this weekend, including the doubles team of ninth-ranked David North and Marko Rajevac, who are the top seed in the Division I Doubles bracket..
