Men's Tennis Sweeps Georgia Southern

The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team opened the 2004 season with a 7-0 win over Georgia Southern Saturday afternoon. With the win the Yellow Jackets improve to 1-0 on the year while the Eagles fall to 0-3.

The Yellow Jackets opened the match sweeping the doubles point as Scott Schnugg and Jose Muguruza defeated Danie van den Heever and Vincent Patry, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles, Joao Menano and Marko Rajevac held on to beat Doruk Baglan and Stephen Dubianski, 9-7 at No. 2 and West Nott and Jason Pieters defeated Tom Green and Germano Knorr, 8-2.

In singles play, Schnugg defeated Patry at the No. 1 position, 7-6 (7-4), 7-5, Muguruza beat Baglan 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2 and Pieters swept van den Heever, 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 3 line. In other singles matches, Nott swept Green in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 while at No. 5 Rajevac defeated Lasha Janashia 6-0, 6-0 and Menano finished out the afternoon with a straight-set victory over Henri-Trottet, 6-3, 6-2.

The Yellow Jackets will return to action Saturday when they host a doubleheader beginning at 10 a.m. against Chattanooga followed by a 3 p.m. match against Mercer. Both matches will be played at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
