ATLANTA – Behind Sergio Aguirre at No. 5 singles, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (4-2) beat cross-town rival Georgia State, 5-2, at Tech’s Bill Moore Tennis Center Thursday.
Aguirre clinched the match with a 6-4, 7-6 (3) victory over Miha Lisac. Also earning points in singles for the Yellow Jackets were Romain Coirault, David Wright, and Joao Menano. Wright dominated Fernando Damus, 6-4, 6-2, in the No. 3 singles match. Coirault, playing No. 2 singles, defeated Pablo Perez Gras 6-1, 7-6 (3). Menano fought through first and third set tie breakers to take the No. 6 singles match from Chris Stewart, 7-6 (3), 1-6, 7-6 (5).
The Yellow Jackets began the afternoon by winning two of three doubles matches to take the doubles’ point. Wright and Roger Anderson won 9-8 (5) in the No. 1 spot over Damus and Franco, while Coirault and Menano defeated Jon Monk and Chris Stewart, 8-3, at No. 2 doubles.
Tech hosts South Carolina Saturday at 12 noon at Bill Moore Tennis Center.
