ATLANTA (Apr. 15) — In a match that wasn’t decided until the final point, Georgia Tech men’s tennis team was edged out by No. 17 Miami (Fla.). The loss drops the No. 70 Yellow Jackets to 10-11 (4-3 in the ACC).
The match was clinched when the Hurricanes’ Michael Lang defeated Tech’s Romain Coirault in the No. 4 spot 7-6, 1-6, 6-2. The Jackets swept the top part of the lineup, with Sergio Aguirre beating Miami’s Tomas Smid at the No. 1 singles spot 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (2). Also winning for Tech was Roger Anderson in the No. 2 spot 6-2, 7-5 over Peter Hoffman and David Wright in the No. 3 spot 6-7 (5), 7-6(5), 7-5 over Johan Lindqvist.
David Wright and Roger Anderson teamed up for the only doubles match win for Tech, 8-5 over Michael Lang amd Arpad Odry in the No. 2 spot. Tech’s Tim Bibby and Romain Coirault dropped a tight match in the No. 1 spot to the 38th ranked pair of Smid and Hoffman 9-8.
The Jackets play their final match of the regular season tomorrow as they host the No. 47 Florida State University at 1:00 p.m. at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
