Men’s Tennis Invited to Albany College Invitational in Bahamas

Aug. 29, 2017

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis will represent the ACC this fall in the inaugural Albany College Tennis Invitational at the Albany Resort in New Providence, Bahamas, head coach Kenny Thorne announced on Tuesday.

Joining the Yellow Jackets to kick off the season on September 22-23 will be Big Ten representative Michigan and Auburn from the SEC with four players from each team competing in singles and doubles action in the event.

“We are excited to be invited to the first annual Albany Collegiate Invitational,” Thorne said. “Albany has an incredible new tennis facility led by Lleyton Hewitt and Director of Tennis Grant Doyle. We are excited about the entire trip from the good competition with Michigan and Auburn to the beautiful location in the Bahamas to the people running the event. It is a great way to start the fall season and get some competitive matches under our belt.”

Michigan is coming off one of its best seasons in program history, finishing 23-7 overall with a 10-2 mark in the Big Ten – good for second in the conference. The then-No. 16 Wolverines battled for just its second Big Ten championship in its history, ultimately falling to No. 2 Ohio State.

Auburn is coming off of a 13-15 (3-9 SEC) season that saw it finish 11th in the conference. The Tigers fell in the SEC Tournament when then-No. 28 Ole Miss defeated them in the second round.
