Men's Tennis Hosts Auburn Thursday Afternoon

Feb. 13, 2008

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team (5-0) will continue its dual season Thursday at 2 p.m. against Auburn (2-1) at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.

“Auburn is a very good Southeastern Conference team and [head coach] Eric Shore has done a great job keeping them one of the best teams in the nation each year,” head coach Kenny Thorne said. “We play them every year so we know them fairly well and they know us. We plan to stay focused on our individual game plans. We expect a very tough match and are excited about it.”

This is the 38th meeting between the two schools and the Yellow Jackets hold a 25-12 edge over the Tigers in the series. The two squads have split the last two meetings with each team winning on their home courts.

Tech enters the match undefeated on the season. Last week, the Jackets pulled out a tough 4-3 victory over visiting Mississippi State. Senior David North was the last one on the court with the score tied 3-3 and he clinched the match with a tough 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 win over No. 14 Philippe Frayssinoux.

Tech continues its season-opening homestand against Furman next Wednesday, February 20 at 2:30 p.m. South Carolina will be the third SEC school to visit Tech this season when they come to town on Sunday, February 24 for a 1:00 p.m. start.
