After dropping a tough Atlantic Coast Conference match to No. 19 Virginia, the No. 34 Georgia Tech (10-4) men’s tennis team will step of out conference to face instate rival Georgia (7-2) in Athens Wednesday at 1 p.m.
The Jackets trail in the series between the two schools, 17-44, including a tough 4-3 loss last season to the Bulldogs. Tech’s last victory came during the 1988 season when current head coach Kenny Thorne was on the team. Since then, three matches have been decided by one point.

“Obviously our team is very excited to play Georgia,” said Thorne. “This is a match that both teams look forward to each season and it’s a fun match to coach because both teams tend to rise to the occassion and play their best. Georgia is every bit as talented as they have been in the past and our team will have its work cut out for themselves, but are ready for the challenge.”
To date, the Jackets have been led by West Nott and Scottt Schnugg, who have a team-best nine wins on the season in dual match play. In addition, Jose Luis Muguruza is ranked No. 78 in singles action in the latest ITA rankings and has a 5-2 record this spring. On the doubles side, the tandem of Schnugg and Marko Rajevac own a 10-4 record at No. 1 doubles and are currently ranked No. 15 in the ITA rankings.
