TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Georgia Tech men’s tennis completed the first day of qualifiers on Thursday afternoon at the ITA Regional Championships, advancing three to the round of 16. The top eight from qualifiers earn spots in the main draw.
The third round of qualifiers will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 21 followed by main draw singles and doubles play.
Singles Update: All four Georgia Tech competitors earned first round byes in day one of qualifiers. With the No. 1 seed in the qualifying bracket, senior Cole Fiegel snagged a second round win over Miami’s Nile Clark by a score of 6-0, 6-3 to advance to play on Friday. Daniel Yun secured a 6-3, 6-4 win over Georgia State’s Giles Hussey.
Elijah Melendez advanced with a 6-3, 6-3 defeat of Miami’s Kevin Bondar. It was the second time this fall Melendez topped Bondar, the two squared off in the first round of the Georgia Tech Invitational. Phillip Gresk was topped by Georgia State’s Felipe Jaworski, 7-5, 6-4.
