Scott Blackmon of Pensacola, Fla. and Jordan Delass of Marietta, Ga. have signed letters of intent to play men’s tennis at Georgia Tech, head coach Kenny Thorne announced Thursday.

Blackmon, ranked in the top 100 among 18s in the nation according to USTA, has finished third in the State Closed championship in his age division each of the last three years. Already this year, he has wins over four nationally ranked players and has played at the No. 1 singles position for Pensacola Catholic High throughout his career. The Pensacola News Journal all-Area Tennis Player of the Year in 2003, Blackmon is an excellent student who is ranked seventh in his class of 125.

“I am thrilled to have Scott joining our team,” said Thorne. “He had a very impressive summer last year and has a big game with a big heart and is one of the top players out of Florida, which is one of the toughest regions for tennis.”

Delass, ranked 47th among 18s in the nation by USTA, has ben chosen to represent both the Eastern Section and the Southern Section on the intersectional team and is currently ranked as the top player in Georgia. In addition, Delass was a member of a team which won both the Georgia Davis Cup and the Southern Section Davis Cup in 2003.

“Jordan will be a great addition to our team and we are lucky to have found such a talented player in the Atlanta area,” said Thorne. “He is one of the most improved players in the nation and played some great tennis last summer. It’s one of my goals to have local players join our team, and Jordan will be a great help to our program.”

“We are very excited to have both Jordan and Scott sign with Georgia Tech,” said head coach Kenny Thorne. “They are both outstanding tennis players, as well as great students which is a great fit for our team. I love to find good players with good academic backgrounds and strong character and that’s what we have in these two guys.”
