Men Finish Fifth; Women Close in Eleventh at Clemson Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. – Freshman Juan Cave finished first in the men’s high jump with a mark of 6 feet, 11 ¾ inches leading the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams at the Clemson Invitational this weekend. The men’s team finished in fifth place and the women placed eleventh at the two-day event.

Junior Jerome Miller placed second in the men’s high jump with a height of 6 feet, 11 ¾ inches. He reached the same height as Cave but lost the tie-breaker. Senior James Lemons finished third in the men’s long jump with a mark of 23 feet, 9 inches. Lemons also placed second in the men’s triple jump with a mark of 50 feet.

Also on the men’s side, sophomore Nigel Orr placed fourth in the long jump, landing at 22 feet, 11 inches. Orr then finished fourth in the triple jump with a jump of 48 feet, 6 ¾ inches. Freshman Alphonso Jordan placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 49 feet, 7 ¾ inches. He also finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.33 seconds.

The women’s team, which only had a few athletes competing, was led by junior Shantia Moss finished first in the 60-meter hurdles with a NCAA provisional time of 8.25 seconds. Senior Lindsey Vincent placed fifth in the long jump with a mark of 18 feet, 11 ¾ inches.

The Tech track and field teams will be back in action next Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Diet Pepsi Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
