Mead Earns All-ACC Accolades

Nov. 23, 2011

GREENSBORO, N.C. – After an outstanding 2011 season, Monique Mead has been named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball team. This is the third-straight honor for the junior who was named the ACC Freshman of the Year in 2009.

Mead has accumulated 578 kills this season for a 5.07 kills/set average which leads the ACC and is second in the nation. She has also tallied 5.75 points/set which is also atop the ACC and second in the country.

This season, Mead has recorded 11 double-doubles, 14 matches with at least 20 kills, and has recorded double figure kills in every match this season. She is also averaging 2.56 digs/set and 0.80 blocks.

Last weekend against Miami (Nov. 18), Mead moved into third on the single season kills list after notching 24 kills against the Hurricanes. After her 15 kill performance against Florida State, Mead is just eight kills away from the second spot on the single season kills list and if she notches 22 kills against Clemson she would become only the second player in Tech history to record 600 kills in a season.

Mead currently cracked the top-10 in the career kills category last weekend at NC State and sits in 10th place with 1,449 total kills during her three year career on the Flats.

Mead earned ACC Player of the Week honors twice this season (Aug. 29 and Nov. 7) en route to her All-ACC nod.

Mead and the rest of the Yellow Jackets will finish out the 2011 regular season Wednesday against the Clemson Tigers at 6:30 p.m. at O’Keefe Gymnasium.
