EUGENE, Ore. – Georgia Tech track and field senior Jhanelle McLeod and junior Julienne McKee finished 14th and 22nd, respectively, in the triple jump Friday night at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field on the University of Oregon’s campus.
Making her first career NCAA appearance, McLeod leaped to a distance of 12.92m (42-4.75) for 14th place. McLeod excelled in the triple jump throughout the outdoor season. The Kingston, Jamaica, native took first in the triple jump at the ACC Outdoor Championships to earn All-ACC first team honors. Two weeks prior at the Florida Relays, she won the triple jump and set a new school record with a distance of 13.39m (43-11.25).
McKee took 22nd in her second NCAA Outdoor Championships with a distance of 12.60m (41-4.25). The Marietta, Ga., native leaped to a distance of 12.74m (41-9.75) at the NCAA East Preliminaries for a spot in the championship meet.
McKee is a 2013 indoor USTFCCCA first-team All-American and an indoor NCAA First-Team All-American after an eighth-place finish in the triple jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Jonathan Gardner wraps up the Jackets’ time in Eugene with the men’s triple jump Saturday at 3:30 p.m. The Chicago, Ill., native placed 11th in the triple jump with a leap of 15.36m (50-4.75) to punch his ticket to the NCAA Championships.
