McKay Leads Jackets on Day One of Clemson Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. – Sophomore Antoinetta McKay finished fourth in the women’s long jump with a season-best leap of 19 feet, ½ inch, to lead the Georgia Tech women’s track and field team at the Clemson Invitational on Friday night.

Junior Blake Fertitta and sophomore Emily Yandle tallied sixth-place finishes in the men’s and women’s 5,000 meters. Fertitta clocked a Tech season-best time of 16:13.82, while Yandle posted a Tech season-best time of 19:56.52.

Junior Paul Specht finished seventh in the men’s 5,000 with a time of 16:22.37 and freshman Veronica Kinard crossed the finish line in seventh in the women’s 5,000 with a time of 20:01.93.

The women’s Distance Medley Relay team of Jenny Sims, Misty Dirksen, Ashley Keck and Nisha Kurian finished third with a time of 11:58.25.

Freshman Alana Clooten finished ninth in the women’s weight throw with a toss of 46 feet, 11 ¾ inches.

In the preliminaries of the women’s 60-meter dash, senior Andriane Lapsley (7.46), junior Ashlee Kidd (7.55) and sophomore twin sisters Shantrell (7.67) and Shantia Moss (7.86) all qualified for the finals on Saturday. Sophomore Tenisha Griggs and Lapsley moved on to the finals of the women’s 60-meter high hurdles on Saturday with times of 8.63 and 8.66, respectively.

The final day of the Clemson Invitational will conclude on Saturday afternoon.
