McKay Jr. Leads Tech on Final Day of McCravy Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Junior Antonio McKay Jr. won the 400m dash to lead the Georgia Tech Track & Field team on the second and final day of the Rod McCravy Memorial Invitational in Lexington, Ky. on Saturday afternoon.

The mark for McKay Jr. of 46.63 was an NCAA Provisional Mark and a career best for the junior in the 400m.

In other action on the day, Tech registered two top five finishes in the women’s high jump, with Terri Anne Grant finishing second overall with a 5′ 8″ mark in the finals, while Bianca Stewart placed third with a mark of 5′ 6″ in the finals.

Next in the women’s long jump, freshman Jasmine Kent finished fifth overall 18′ 8¾” mark, while teammate Jhanelle McLeod finished ninth in the finals after posting a mark of 18′ 1¼”.

In the women’s 60m hurdles, sophomore Melanie Akwule finished ninth overall after crossing finish line in 8.66. On the men’s side of the 60m hurdles, senior Alphonso Jordan continued his impressive weekend with a second place finish in the finals with a time of 8.04.

Next up in the women’s 60m dash, junior Jenae Anderson paled seventh overall after finishing in a time of 7.62. , while in the women’s one mile run, freshman Annie Martin finished 10th after crossing the finish line in 5:00.51.

In the women’s 400m dash, senior Tiffany Grant crossed the finish line in 55.72 to finish sixth overall, while teammate Kellie Christian finished ninth with a time of 56.24. Next in the women’s 800m run, freshman Jade Sims registered another top-ten finish for the Jackets after finishing with a time of 2:17.86 to place ninth overall.

In the women’s 200m dash, Anderson continued her solid afternoon with an eighth place finish in 24.81, while teammate Christian finished right behind in ninth place in a time of 24.83. In the final two events of note for Tech on the day, McKay registered a top-ten finish in the 200m with a time of 21.62 to finish eighth, while sophomore Mary Kate DuBard finished sixth in the 3000m dash in a time of 9:59.09

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Feb. 5th when they take part in the Virginia Tech Elite Invitational in Blacksburg, Va.
