ATLANTA – Seventh-seeded Amanda McDowell, a sophomore All-American at Georgia Tech, has advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Championships following a straight-set third-round victory over UCLA’s Tracy Lin Friday afternoon.
The Yellow Jacket standout, Tech’s lone remaining competitor in the tournament, breezed to a 6-4, 6-2 win over the UCLA All-American and will face Baylor’s Lenka Broosova Saturday in quarterfinal action.
With her win Friday, McDowell recorded her 42nd singles victory of the 2008 season, tying the mark for most singles wins in a season at Georgia Tech. Kristi Miller, a senior on the 2008 squad that finished her career with 151 singles wins, notched 42 singles wins in her first year on the Flats.
